New Moon Greetings, Dear Friends❣️
Better late than never! When I was about to post on Sunday, a ferocious storm rolled through and took out our power for 48 hours! I am posting two days late, and I am grateful for your patience!
We’ve reached the midpoint of the calendar year. The sun is high in the sky and will reach its peak this week on the June Solstice here in the Northern Hemisphere. As we approach the Summer Solstice, we arrive at a threshold in the year, a moment when daylight stretches to its longest reach and the sun lingers in the sky well into the evening.
This season invites us to celebrate abundance, vitality, and growth while also reminding us of the importance of balance. Nature teaches us that every season contains both expansion and rest, action and stillness, outward expression and inward reflection.
Lately, my body, heart, and soul have been craving connection to the physical, analog world. The long, warm days are calling me outside and away from my office and my screens, offering a welcome reprieve from the digital landscape of instant communication, endless notifications, and the constant stream of online content.
PS. Wondering if I conjured up the power outage while I was writing this?
I find myself longing for both human connection and connection to something larger than myself. Outdoor concerts, summer festivals, and evenings spent beneath the sky offer opportunities for movement, laughter, community, and the simple joy of celebrating life together.
That longing has also drawn me toward water. Quiet space paddling my kayak across the surface of a lake, afternoons swimming at my local community pool with the gorgeous group of women I now affectionately call the Cumberland Crones, and moments spent simply sitting near the water’s edge all feel deeply nourishing.
This strong pull toward water feels like a balm, balancing the heat, brilliant sunlight, and long days of the season. Water reminds me to soften, cool, and flow when life feels overstimulating, hurried, or too full. It invites me back to myself.
This time of year, I am also reminded how quickly the seasons evolve. They emerge, flourish, peak, and slowly wane into the next season. Summer and winter often express themselves through extremes, while spring and autumn offer a gentler balance between light and dark. Nature is always changing, and so are we.
I encourage you to spend a few moments each day sitting in the sun, as your body and circumstances allow. Feel its warmth and energy gently saturating your body. For me, this practice is both energizing and soothing. It feels like charging my internal battery in preparation for the colder months that will eventually return.
Choose whatever time of day feels most nourishing. Some of you may love the intensity of the midday sun, while others may prefer the softer golden light just after sunrise or before sunset. There is no right way to receive the gifts of this season. Simply listen to what your body needs.
And lastly, I have been struggling to find the time and energy for this newsletter and wondering how it might evolve without letting it go entirely. Perhaps that, too, is part of honoring the season’s wisdom. Not everything is meant to remain unchanged. Some things expand, some things simplify, and some things ask to be reimagined.
For now, I offer this brief note and heartfelt hello, along with a simple mindfulness practice to help us pause and check in with ourselves during these bright and busy days.
As we move through the Solstice and into the second half of the year, may we learn from the sun’s brilliance without feeling pressured to shine at full intensity all the time. May we honor both our energy and our limits, our growth and our need for restoration. The season invites us not only to celebrate the light around us, but also to tend gently to the light within.
Love & Light,
Jennifer 💫💖💫
Micro Mindfulness Practice: Checking In at Peak Sunlight 🔆
If possible, step outside or sit near a sunny window.
Pause for a moment and allow your body to settle.
Feel your feet connected to the earth beneath you.
Notice the warmth of the sunlight on your skin. There is nothing you need to do and nowhere you need to be for these next few moments.
Take three slow, easy breaths.
First, notice where your body feels energized, alive, or open.
Then notice where your body feels tired, tense, or in need of care.
Without trying to change anything, simply listen.
Ask yourself:
What does my body need today?
Pause and wait for whatever response arises.
Perhaps it needs movement.
Perhaps it needs rest.
Perhaps it needs water, nourishment, connection, or quiet.
Take one final breath and thank your body for carrying you through this season of light.
When you are ready, return to your day with a little more awareness and a little more kindness toward yourself.
